The World Famous
Blue Angels
United States Navy’s flight demonstration squadron
The Blue Angels is the United States Navy’s flight demonstration squadron, which was formed in 1946. The squadron consists of highly skilled pilots and support personnel who showcase the capabilities of Navy and Marine Corps aviation through their aerial acrobatics and precision flying.
The Blue Angels typically fly six F/A-18 Hornet aircraft, performing maneuvers such as loops, rolls, and high-speed passes. Their demonstrations often include intricate formations and precise timing, which require extensive training and practice. The team also performs with a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, known as “Fat Albert,” which demonstrates the aircraft’s handling capabilities.
The Blue Angels perform at air shows and other events throughout the United States and around the world, and their performances are widely regarded as some of the best and most exciting aerial displays. In addition to their public performances, the team also participates in community outreach events and meets with members of the public to promote the Navy and Marine Corps and inspire future generations of aviators.
AIRSHOW TIPS
- Increase your fluid intake the day before the practice air show and continue to drink cool, nonalcoholic beverages while on the flight line.
- Avoid very cold drinks, because they can cause stomach cramps. Remember to keep cool and use common sense.
- Choose lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. In the hot sun, a wide-brimmed hat will provide shade and keep the head cool.
- Be sure to apply sunscreen 30 minutes prior to going out and continue to reapply according to the package directions. Sunburn affects your body’s ability to cool itself and causes a loss of body fluids. It also causes pain and damages the skin.
- Get medical assistance as soon as possible by alerting staff members on the Flight Line.
